Training Unit
The Training Unit coordinates all departmental training including in-service instruction and
outside school attendance by department personnel. This unit is the liaison with the Broward
County Police Academy and is responsible for the training of all new sworn Police Officers
and Public Service Aides.
Additional responsibilities:
- Range and Firearms Training - instructs and qualifies all Police Officer semi-annually.
- In-Service Programs - Develops and instructs in-house training year round to meet FDLE mandatory training requirements.
- Tracts Communicable Disease Exposures - Police Officers are exposed daily to airborne pathogens of communicable diseases. This unit tracts these exposures and coordinates with the appropriate medical facility for post exposure evaluations.
The Training Unit also schedules Officers and other high risk personnel for Hepatitis B inoculations, TB and Titers testing.
- Police Gym - Maintains all workout equipment in the Departmental Gym.
- Emergency Operations Center (EOC) - in event of a major disaster or hurricane, all City department heads and designated personnel will coordinate emergency and relief response. This center will be setup in the Police station and maintained by the Training Unit.
- Department Library - maintain a reference library for all personnel.
- Intern Program - coordinate yearly with several colleges and run an in-house Intern Program.
