The Investigative Bureau is comprised of two divisions, Criminal Investigations and Special Investigations. Criminal Investigations, most commonlyreferred to as "The Detective Bureau" by most of the community, is comprised of those officers assigned to follow-up on all crimes. From time to time they assist other police agencies with outside investigations. The Special Investigations division, also made up of detectives, works cooperatively to dismantle criminal organization, disrupt drug trafficking and sales, conduct covert operations as necessary, and obtain, analyze and disseminate criminal intelligence data. These divisions work directly in the neighborhoods to maintain the quality of life in the community.
The Special Investigations Division is comprised of detectives that dismantle criminal organizations, disrupt drug trafficking and sales, conduct covert operations as necessary, and obtain, analyze and disseminate criminal intelligence data. In addition, this division works directly with City residents to address quality of life issues.
There are five units within the Special Investigations Division (SID): Major Narcotics, Street Narcotics known as “the Raiders,” Vice, Strategic Investigations, and Technical Services. SID detectives are also assigned, on a full time basis, to the following multi-agency task forces: Southeast Regional Drug Enforcement Administration Task Force, Florida Department of Law Enforcement’s Money Laudering Task Force, Broward Sheriff’s Domestic Interdiction Unit, Broward Sheriff’s Organized Crime Unit, Law Enforcement Against Child Harm (LEACH), and the Federal Bureau of Investigations Joint Terrorist Task Force.
The units and task forces play a pivotal role in conducting criminal investigations that address drug importation and distribution, money laundering, prostitution, beverage violations, extortion, and terrorist threats. They also contribute to major asset seizures. Please note a brief overview of each unit.
