CHILD SAFETY SEMINAR

October 28, 2002

The Fort Lauderdale Police Department in partnership with the Dignity Memorial Network, Inc. is offering Escape School, a free child safety seminar for parents and children ages 5 to 13.

Escape School is scheduled for Monday, November 4, 2002 from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Fort Lauderdale City Hall first floor Commission Chambers, 100 N. Andrews Avenue, Fort Lauderdale. This seminar consists of a video, instructional lecture and role playing exercises with the instructor and children.

The safety of children is a priority. With the recent publicized abductions of children, the Fort Lauderdale Police Department’s Community Support Division is taking preventive action. Escape School is an educational program developed by Bob Stuber, a former police officer, which teaches children how to recognize and avoid potential abduction while building self-confidence. Parents are strongly urged to attend this seminar with their children. By the end of the seminar, children will know to trust their instincts and differentiate between “good” and “bad” strangers.

“The more informed a child is, the more prepared he or she is to take an active part in their own safety,” said Major Robert Pusins of the Fort Lauderdale Police Department. “We feel that the Fort Lauderdale Police Department can take a leadership role to educate children in their safety.”

Escape School is a public service campaign sponsored by neighborhood funeral homes affiliated with the Dignity Memorial Network, Inc. This seminar is open to everyone.

To register for the program, call the Fort Lauderdale Police Department’s Community Support Division at (954) 828-6429.
