HOMICIDE ARREST
October 11, 2001
The Fort Lauderdale Police Department has arrested and charged twenty year-old Gerald Gerrard Mallory in the death of two year-old Meliek Mallory.
Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue personnel found Meliek unconscious after they responded to 1020 N. Victoria Park Road, #17, to a reported “child having trouble breathing”. Fire Rescue transported the child to Broward General Medical Center where the child was found to be in critical condition as the result of severe head trauma. Fort Lauderdale Police Department Homicide Detectives responded to the hospital as a result of the child’s condition and began their investigation. Originally the parents of Meliek stated that he had fallen off the bed while “jumping around” however the amount of head trauma was extensive.
Meliek remained in critical condition until late Tuesday afternoon, October 9, 2001, and at approximately 5:40 p.m. Meliek died.
The Broward County Medical Examiners Office has performed an autopsy and has ruled Meliek’s death a homicide as a result of blunt force trauma.
According to statements given to investigators Gerald Mallory has admitted striking Meliek prior to the child being found unconscious.
Meliek’s mother, Jenny Jovel, has also been charged in the case with one count of Aggravated Child Abuse.
Both Gerald Mallory and Jenny Jovel were arrested and charged today October 11, 2001 at approximately 1:00 p.m. and are in custody at the Fort Lauderdale Police Department.

The Fort Lauderdale Police Department is investigating the suspicious disappearance of 55 year-old Jack Davidoff.
Davidoff - MissingDavidoff was last seen on October 6th, as he was possibly headed toward Fort Lauderdale beach, and has not been seen since. Friends and co-workers became concerned and called Fort Lauderdale Police.
Detectives have checked Davidoff’s residence and the home appears to have been ransacked, along with property missing. Additionally Davidoff’s credit cards have been being used along the east coast of the United States as far north as Boston.
Davidoff’s 2001 Grey Toyota Camry is also missing. The vehicle has a Florida tag of XIX-13G.
Davidoff is described as a white male, 5’5’, 170 pounds, medium build, with brown hair, and brown eyes.

On Friday, October 12, 2001, the attached press release was issued in reference to a missing adult, Jack Davidoff, Davidoff's disappearance was considered suspicious.
Late Friday afternoon a second press release was issued stating that Davidoff had been located in the Boston area and that he was unharmed and there of his own free will.
Early Saturday morning friends and family listened to a tape recorded conversation between homicide detectives and Davidoff. Both family and friends stated that the voice was not that of Davidoff's, and as of late Saturday afternoon Davidoff again is missing and cannot be contacted by cell phone. Family still feels that Davidoff is in danger.
The Fort Lauderdale police Department is reissuing the original press release in reference to the disappearance of Davidoff and asking anyone with information to call the listed phone numbers.

The Fort Lauderdale Police Department has received additional information in the suspicious disappearance of 55 year-old Jack Davidoff.
Davidoff - MissingLate Friday night October 12, 2001, detectives spoke to a male identifying himself as Davidoff by cell phone. Family of Davidoff listened to that conversation, which detectives recorded, and has indicated that the voice is not that of Davidoff.
Through the use of “cell phone towers” detectives were able to narrow down the area that the call was made from in Boston, Mass. This information was forwarded to authorities in Boston who were able to locate Davidoff’s vehicle and a location where the occupants of the vehicle were staying. Officers made entry into the room where the two suspects were; one was taken into custody while the other was able to flee out a rear window.

Ilidio LindoTaken into custody was 22 year-old Elmer Antonio Ordonez, white male, 06-03-72. Still at large is 29 year-old Ilidio Lindo, white male, 03-26-79.
Ordonez has given no information as to the whereabouts of Davidoff.

MISSING ADULT FOUND/HOMICIDE INVESTIGATION

The Fort Lauderdale Police Department has located the body of 55 year-old Jack Davidoff. Davidoff was last seen alive on October 6th, and reported missing days later after co-workers and friends became concerned, as he had not been seen.
Davidoff’s body was found Saturday October 13th in a field located near the intersection of NW 106 Ave. and NW 71 Street in Miami-Dade County. Police were called to the scene where Miami-Dade Homicide Detectives took over the investigation. Through the use of dental records Davidoff was positively identified on Tuesday October 16th.
At this time Miami-Dade and Fort Lauderdale Homicide Detectives are closely working the case together. The cause and manor of death are not being released at this time, and there are no suspects or a motive in the homicide.

Fred StapledonThe Fort Lauderdale Police Department is attempting to locate 46 year-old Fred Stapledon.
Fred StapledonFred was reported missing late Friday night, October 19th, after he attended the show “Beatlemania’ at the War Memorial Auditorium, 900 N. Federal Highway, with a group from the Victory Living Facility. Fred has a mental disability and extremely severe short-term memory. An area search was done by the Fort Lauderdale Police Department along with Fred’s family and employees from Victory with negative results.
Fred is described as a white male, 5’10”, 180 pounds, brown hair and brown eyes, last seen wearing blue jean shorts and a white t-shirt. Fred wears glasses.

UPDATE
Fred Stapledon was found, Monday October 22nd, as he knocked on the door of a residence in the 1700 block of North Atlantic Blvd. Fred stated that he lived there, the resident realizing that Fred appeared confused recalled the local media coverage of a missing man and notified the Fort Lauderdale Police Department. Shortly after 7:00 p.m. Fred was reunited with family and friends and is in good physical condition.

SPECIAL TRAFFIC ENFORCEMENT OPERATION
October 24, 2001
The Fort Lauderdale Police Department will be conducting “Special Traffic Enforcement Operations” in the 600 block of South Federal Highway for the next four Friday nights. Officers will be in the area from 9:00 p.m.-11:30 p.m. specifically for additional traffic enforcement.
There are no delays in traffic expected in this area as a result of the operation.
The dates of the operation are October 26th, November 2nd, November 9th and November 16th.

HOMICIDE INVESTIGATION

The Fort Lauderdale Police Department is investigating the shooting death of 28 year-old Michael G. Minnis.
Minnis was shot by an unknown culprit as he exited the Midway Food Market located at 106 NW 11 Avenue shortly before 11:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 23, 2001. Minnis was able to walk approximately a half block where he collapsed on the swale and died.
There are suspects or a motive for the shooting at this time.

Fort Lauderdale Police are requesting your assistance in locating a missing juvenile. Robin Nicole Crosley was last seen May 5, 2001. Although Robin has run away in the past, it has been for a very short time. Her mother, Florence Difton is hoping that someone has seen Robin or has information in regard to her whereabouts.

Fort Lauderdale Police are investigating the disappearance of John Shaw, a 65-year-old black male. Housing Authority personnel at 617 Northwest 10th Ave, Fort Lauderdale, last saw John on October 4th. John both lives and works with the Housing Authority. John has suffered a stroke in the past and is subsequently sometimes forgetful. John is also a diabetic and needs to take insulin.
