MULTIPLE ARRESTS

November 1, 2001

Fort Lauderdale Police Department’s Burglary Detectives have arrested 4 persons in the culmination of a two-month investigation and subsequent search warrant. Two additional arrests are anticipated today. The four that have been arrested thus far are Ali Al Madi, owner of the store, Elbager Mustafa, George Emanuel and Waleed Rahma.

Detectives Cheryl Donisi and Jack Gee advised all four have been charged with multiple counts of dealing in stolen property. Mustafa and Rahma have been charged with multiple counts of organized scheme to defraud and social welfare fraud.

The search warrant came as a result of witnesses selling stolen property to store clerks at the Sistrunk Meat Market, 1500 Northwest 6th Street, in Fort Lauderdale. The stolen property consisted of over the counter medication, cigarettes, beer, fragrances, personal hygiene products and batteries. Some of the items bought by the clerks were still on the premises at the time the search warrant was served. The store clerks also gave cash to food stamp recipients then charged their state issued vouchers double the amount of cash handed out. Drug paraphernalia was also purchased from within the store; much of that was recovered under the cash register area at the time the warrant was served. The machine that was used to debit the food stamp vouchers, an illegal firearm, and items marked with other store’s logos were confiscated and placed into evidence.
