FORT LAUDERDALE POLICE DEPARTMENT RECEIVES STATE RE-ACCREDITATION AND NATIONAL RECOGNITION
July 6, 2004
Chief Bruce G. Roberts of the Fort Lauderdale Police Department announced today that the agency has been awarded re-accredited status by the Commission for Florida Law Enforcement Accreditation (CFA) at a Commission meeting in St. Petersburg Fla. CFA reviews all aspects of an agency’s policies and procedures, management, operations, and support services to determine compliance with 276 standards of excellence. Vice Chairman Andrew Scott formally presented the Certificate of Re-Accreditation to Assistant Chief James Hurely on June 23, 2004 at the Trade Winds Island Grand in St. Petersburg.
Many of the 276 standards that were reviewed by a team of assessors were critical to life, health and safety issues. Because Fort Lauderdale Police Department complied with these standards, they were also awarded national recognition by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA).
Undergoing the voluntary state accreditation and national recognition processes provides an agency with a “quality assurance review” and encourages intense self-scrutiny, resulting in more efficient and effective daily operations. Becoming accredited by the Commission for Florida Law Enforcement Accreditation and recognized by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies are considered significant accomplishments and the criminal justice community holds this status in high esteem.
“By choosing to participate in the formal and thorough peer review by the Commission, Fort Lauderdale Police Department can document to the citizens of Florida that it adheres to high standards of professionalism and is among the finest in the state,” noted Chief Roberts.
