SPEECH CRAFT COMPETITION
December 3, 2001
The Fort Lauderdale Police Department’s Community Support Division will be presenting it’s inaugural “Speech Craft Competition” on Wednesday, December 5, 2001 at 7:00 p.m. at the Sunland Park Elementary School, 919 NW 13 Avenue.
The Speech Craft Competition is an after school component of the “A.I.M. H.I.G.H.” (Alternative Intervention Methods to Help Improve Grades and Hope) founded by Fort Lauderdale Police Detective Nate Jackson in 1998. The program was launched in January 2001 in two area elementary schools for students in grades 4-6 to aid in building self-esteem and confidence, while developing communication and leadership skills.
Due to the tremendous success and demand of the program it quickly advance from two to six area elementary schools with over 100 students currently participating.
The competition on Wednesday will have students from all six schools competing against each other in speech writing and public speaking skills, and will be judged with winners receiving prizes donated by the Fort Lauderdale Police Department.
Master of Ceremonies for the night will be Cheryl Mizell from radio station 99JAMZ.
All members of the media, educators, and interested individuals are asked to attend this worthwhile and important community program.
