SHOOTING INVESTIGATION

August 30, 2000

Reward Poster

The Fort Lauderdale Police Department is investigating a shooting that occurred on August 29th at approximately 11:18 p.m. in front of 168 Isle of Venice. The victim, Andrea Stella, 01-21-76, was confronted by at least 3 black male subjects all wearing bandannas, or caps in an apparent robbery attempt. The victim resisted and was shot several times. The culprits fled in a late model, dark colored “box” type vehicle. The victim was transported to Broward General Medical Center in critical condition.

Stella is an Italian student who has been in the U.S. for approximately one month and in the Fort Lauderdale area since Sunday, August 27th. Stella is enrolled at the “Center for English Study”.

At approximately 11:11 p.m. on Tuesday, August 29th the Subway Sandwich shop located at 201 East Sunrise Blvd. was the victim of an armed robbery. Three black males wearing bandannas and a cap entered the store and robbed the employee at gunpoint. The culprits then fled. The robbery was caught on videotape.

The home that was acting as the host for Stella while he was in the Fort Lauderdale area is located in the 1300 block of N. Andrews Ave., and Stella had left the home shortly after 11:00 p.m. The path that Stella most likely would have taken to visit a friend at 168 Isle of Venice would have taken him directly past the Subway Store on Sunrise Blvd.

The videotape has been released in the hopes that someone may recognize the culprits in the robbery, and with the similarities in both cases that information can be developed and the culprits identified.

Anyone with information is asked to call Detective John Curcio at 761-5529 Detective Mark Breen at 761-5708 or Crime Stoppers at 493-T.I.P.S.
