Records Division

The Records Division has a staff of 37. Included in this number are 32 Police Records Clerks, 4 Senior Police Records Clerk, and one Records Supervisor. This division is manned 24 hours a day, 365 days per year. The main responsibilities are to securely store, retrieve, distribute and dispose of police reports. Police reports consist of offense reports, supplement reports, vehicular and marine accidents, arrests, miscellaneous incident reports and tow slips. All reports are assigned a "case number" and are maintained numerically. The records personnel are responsible to maintain a database of all reports as well as process citations for the Broward County Court system. This division handles approximately 200,000 reports a year. This number represents incidents that occur in the city limits of Fort Lauderdale only.

The Records Division's front counter is open to the public Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Saturday 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., Closed on Wednesdays. Reports can be picked up during these hours. Reports or Records Divisionrequest for reports CAN NOT be taken over the phone, faxed or sent via e-mail. Requests for reports can be made in person or by mail. All requests received through the mail must be accompanied by $2.00 and a self-addressed stamped enveloped. Any reports dated before 1996 are on microfilm and the cost is $5.00 per report. It is suggested, however, that you call before requesting a report to confirm that the report has been received in the Records Division and the exact cost of receiving a copy of same. Please provide as much information as possible when requesting a copy of a report, i.e. case number. If the case number is not known, the records division can search for the report by a name of parties involved, case number, date, location or type of incident. The personnel also process clearances for immigration, Certification of Non Criminal history and background checks for employment purposes. These services are provided to the citizens of Fort Lauderdale only. An individual must be present with a photo ID and proper proof of residency within our city limits. The cost for these services varies from $10.00 to $20.00 depending on the specific requirements of the requestor.

To Obtain Police Reports: Requests are only accepted either in person or by regular mail, Records does not accept requests via phone or e-mail, nor do they fax or e-mail reports--yet.
