Burglar Caught and Talking |
Burglar Caught and Talking
December 3, 2002
Last Wednesday, November 27, 2002, afteroon patrol Officers Dietz and S. Littlefield arrested a man on a residential burglary in District 1, after resident arrived home and saw the guy coming out of house. A neighbor saw the individual attempting to get into another house in area earlier. After a brief chase suspect was apprehended. Detective Jack Gee interviewed the suspect, convinced him to speak of burglaries in the City. Preliminary pawn checks had already connected him to several burglaries in District 1, for which he will be charged. He is a career criminal, and with these charges that career will end. He had agreed to point out other burglaries he committed after Detective Gee advised him he would not be charged unless there is corroborating evidence (pawns, prints, witnesses, etc) Detectives Gee and Cheryl Donisi drove him around Wednesday evening. He did some burglaries in Palm Aire area as well, but was non-committal regarding another burglary. He did point out others in the area, with same m.o. He also did burglaries in Oakland Park and Plantation.
Oakland Park, BSO and Plantation police departments will check him out of jail and drive him around in their jurisdictions later this week. Detective Donisi will accompany them to check out the Palm Aire area again, with emphasis on a particular case. He pawned some things, but stated that for the most part he sold most everything else on the street. The pawns were his downfall, as he now realizes. He is cautious of what he says, but acknowledges questions with a nod of the head or wink of an eye. Too soon to give ultimate result. He has pointed out 24 homes in our city, but we have learned that some of those locations had not reported burglaries. So Detective Gee is visiting the locations not reported to determine if the occupants suffered a loss they did not report. The bulk of this guy's burglaries were committed in the last 2-3 months. We will report ultimate results when they can be established. Suspect is 36 yr old w/m, Victor DeAngelo. He has also named an accomplice in a few of the burglaries, which we have to follow-up on to fully identify and confirm involvement, then attempt to locate (doesn't know where he lives) if possible.
