Fort Lauderdale - The Fort Lauderdale Police Department and the Broward County Chapter of MAD DADS (Men Against Destruction - Defending Against Drugs and Social Disorder) have joined forces to create the Dorsey-Riverbend MADDADS Bicycle Patrol.

MAD DADS riding  MAD DADS

The Dorsey-Riverbend MAD DADS Bicycle Patrol, a community patrol team made up of Fort Lauderdale Police Bicycle Patrol officers and citizen volunteers (both male and female), received a donation of 12 bicycles from Wal-Mart. The group will ride through the neighborhood several times a week, identifying unsupervised youth to mentor and positively influence.

MAD DADS is a national organization that was formed in 1989 by parents who were fed up with gang violence and the flow of illegal drugs in their community. Members must present themselves as positive role models and concerned loving parents who are visible in their neighborhoods fighting against the negative forces that destroy children, families and cities.

Fort Lauderdale Police Bicycle Patrol Officers will ride with the MAD DADS, providing support and guidance of this extremely important program, said Captain Paul Kiley.

"The Dorsey-Riverbend MAD DADS Bicycle Patrol will make a tremendous positive impact on the neighborhood,” said Kiley. “There is no doubt in my mind that this will be an effective patrol. The efforts of these volunteers must be applauded because they have come together to promote an important public safety initiative, thereby helping to improve their community.”
