Civilian Employee of the Month - April 2002

Suzan Corey

On Saturday, March 2nd, 2002, you were on your way home and observed a black Nissan 200 SX traveling northbound on I-95. The vehicle caught your attention as it had substantial front-end damage and the airbags had been deployed. You immediately suspected that the vehicle might have been involved in a hit and run accident.

You notified dispatch and continued to observe the vehicle. You further observed that the driver might be operating the vehicle while impaired and relayed this information to dispatch. Units were dispatched to conduct a traffic stop. The vehicle exited I-95 and headed westbound on Commercial Boulevard. As you continued to follow the vehicle and keep dispatch updated of its whereabouts, a BOLO came in from District Two of a vehicle involved in a hit and run accident involving injuries. The bolo vehicle fit the description of the vehicle you were monitoring. A traffic stop was conducted in the 2100 block of West Commercial Boulevard and it was verified that the vehicle responsible for the hit and run accident was indeed this vehicle.

A Broward Sheriff’s Office DUI Task Force Deputy arrived on scene to conduct a DUI investigation, which subsequently resulted in the driver of the vehicle being taken into custody or DUI and further charged with leaving the scene of an accident with injuries.

Your keen attention to detail and dedication to duty prevented this driver from possibly causing further injuries or possible deaths to other drivers or pedestrians. You are commended for you efforts in the apprehension of this subject. Congratulations on a job well done!

Chief of Police
