Hello, all you brilliant career seeking females out there in cyberspace. Do you want an exciting and fascinating career with great wages and benefits?

I’m Mary Gillis and I am a 15-year veteran law enforcement officer with the Ft. Lauderdale Police Department. I am currently working in the Community Support Division as a School Resource /D.A.R.E. Officer in several elementary schools. My previous assignments were Patrol, Special Problems Unit and Community Policing. I had the privilege to do extensive work in a special grant research project, which dealt with alcohol related accidents. The Fort Lauderdale Police Department was one of only two police departments in the country chosen to conduct the research project. As you can see, there are not many dull moments. My career with the Fort Lauderdale Police Department has been quite rewarding.

I have also had the opportunity to further my education since joining the Fort Lauderdale Police Department. I have earned an Associates Degree in Sociology, Bachelors in Public Administration and a Masters Degree in Human Resource Development; my efforts were greatly assisted by our tuition reimbursement program. The City of Fort Lauderdale has a tuition reimbursement program that reimburses up to 100% of public tuition for college. The State of Florida also pays salary incentives for college degrees earned and salary incentive courses completed. I have had the opportunity to also receive training in other areas, which has enhanced my career.

Females are represented in many areas of the Fort Lauderdale Police Department such as Majors, Captains, Sergeants, Patrol and Specialty Units. For individuals still needing or wanting additional income, many of our officers take advantage of numerous overtime and detail opportunities within the City of Fort Lauderdale.

If you are looking for an exciting, challenging and rewarding career, where you will be paid equally to your male counterparts, the Fort Lauderdale Police Department is the place for you.
