Career opportunities for women in the Fort Lauderdale Police Department are exactly the same as they are for men. For the Fort Lauderdale Police Department, this is not just rhetoric. As a matter of fact, 66% of our patrol force is under the command of women. While men still make up the majority of our workforce, we actively recruit and welcome women into our ranks. In fact, it is our goal to substantially increase the number of females policing Fort Lauderdale.
If your desire is to patrol in a uniform police car, we can accommodate you. Want to be a detective in plain clothes? We have a desk and an unmarked car for you—not to mention the many types of cases you will have the opportunity to investigate. Do you want to ride a horse or a motorcycle? You could be in a saddle patrolling one of our famous business districts. Would you like to drive a boat or a mobile command post? Those positions exist too! If you are a dog lover, we also have a K-9 unit.
As for promotions, there are a number of women now serving in command and supervisory positions. But we enthusiastically want to elevate more females to our higher ranks. The promotional opportunities for women are plentiful. As we move from the days when men dominated the law enforcement profession, we take very seriously the opportunity to promote women to leadership roles within our department.
There are no positions in the Fort Lauderdale Police Department, which are off limits to women. If we have it, it can be yours. The heights you can reach within our fine organization are limitless.
