How to Apply

The following copies of documents and information MUST be submitted with your application in order for your application to be processed.

PLEASE NOTE:

HERE IS WHAT YOU NEED:

  1. Test results: C.J.B.A.T. and Physical Agility (see the IPS Information Booklet)
  2. Birth Certificate and/or Naturalization Papers
  3. High School Diploma or Certificate of Equivalent Education
    NOTE: Graduation from United States Armed Forces Institute or possession of a G.E.D. from anywhere other than the State of Florida is acceptable only if accompanied by transcripts of your final scores. If a degree was acquired in a country other than the United States, evidence of equivalence from a recognized agency must be approved.
  4. DD214 Military Release Form(if applicable) MEMBER 4 COPY:
    Your DD214 must show type of separation and character of service to be acceptable.
  5. WORK HISTORY:
    Your work history must include all positions held since the age of 18 to present. (Attach additional sheets to application if necessary). All gaps in work history longer than 3 months must be explained even if you were attending school full-time.
  6. DRIVER'S LICENSE HISTORY:
    List in item #10 all traffic citations received within the last 7 years, include dates, offense, issuing agency, and disposition of case. List tickets even if you attended traffic school and no tickets/points are listed on your license.
  7. Certificate of Completion of minimum standards, Certificate of Compliance, recognition, or comparitive compliance issued by the State of Florida Police Standards and Training Commission or comparable training from an out of state agency (for certified Police Officer applicants only).
  8. All documents related to any arrests to include the police report and court dispositions (if applicable).

There are three ways to get an employment application:
The application is used for any position with the City of Fort Lauderdale.

  1. Print it out from a .PDF document
  2. Print it out from a .DOC document
    (see instructions below);
  3. E-mail a recruiter; or

VETERAN'S PREFERENCE:

NOW THAT YOU HAVE THE FORM(S):

  1. Completely fill out all the sections of the form(s) that apply to you.
  2. Put the form(s) in an envelope and mail it to the address on the top of the application.
  3. Forms not correctly completed will not be considered.
  4. Include copies of all required documents that are applicable.
  5. If your forms are not correctly completed, or if the copies of all necessary documents are not included, you will not be eligible to proceed in our hiring process.
