Units Within CSD

As part of the Community Support Division, the Crime Analysis Unit supports the efforts of the Division and the Department. Tell me about it.

The Crime Prevention Unit is comprised of three detectives, who have been trained, and are certified, in the areas of residential and business security and CPTED (Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design ). Each detective is assigned to a community policing component and it's corresponding district within the city. Click here to learn more about this unit.

The Code Team is comprised of six members. The team has two Building Inspectors, a Fire Inspector, two Police Officers and a unit secretary. The combination of these three disciplines brings together a complete range of enforcement options that begin with civil processes and can end with actual criminal arrest. The Regional Community Policing Institute (RCPI) of Florida
The Regional Community Policing Institute (RCPI) of Florida at St. Petersburg Junior College (SPJC) operates under a cooperative agreement from the Department of Justice, Office of Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS). RCPI provides FREE community policing training to law enforcement officers, community residents, city employees, social service agencies, and private sector representatives throughout Florida. Community Policing

"Community Policing is not a program or a series of programs. It is a philosophy, a belief that working together, the police and the community can accomplish what neither can accomplish alone."

A significant element of the community Policing strategy is to marshal every resource available to address every negative element, which contributes to neighborhood instability.

Threatened neighborhoods have implemented problem-solving plans in conjunction with CSD to reduce crime and raise the quality of life.

The measure of the ultimate effectiveness of a community police effort is the absence of community problems.
