The Fort Lauderdale Police Department is investigating an Aggravated Battery that occurred this morning at approximately 2:37 A.M. The battery took place at 1304 Southwest 5 Court.
Preliminary investigation has revealed that the victim William Rowan went to the above listed address to break up a gathering. As the gathering was in the process of being broken up, a vehicle pulled up with several males inside of it. The males exited the vehicle in front of the residence armed with baseball bats and a knife.
The suspect, later identified as Jean Carlos Velazquez, W/M, 11/12/1983, confronted the victim. During this confrontation Velazquez was able to stab Rowan. After the stabbing, the suspect fled the area in a possible silver Jeep Cherokee.
Information was developed on the suspects address by witness’s on-scene. Fort Lauderdale Police Officer’s responded to 704 Southeast 21 Street and established phone contact with Velazquez. Upon losing phone contact, members of the Fort Lauderdale S.W.A.T. team entered Velazquez’s apartment and discovered that he was not there.
The victim was able to positively identify Velazquez as the culprit who stabbed him. Fort Lauderdale Police Detectives currently have probable cause for Aggravated Battery charges.
